My summer in pictures

Summer is such a magic time of the year. There are so many colours everywhere and so much fruit and vegetables available.

Here are some tomatoes ready to make passata for winter (tomato sauce). Tomatoes need to be very ripe for passata so you can guarantee a naturally sweet and delicious tomato sauce.

Every day there is a new bucket of fresh tomatoes picked from the field.

These long and strange “snake looking” zucchini are really delicious and have a buttery taste. The children had fun collecting them in the fields.

And look at this giant one!

We cut them into cubes, added some parsley and plenty of olive oil. They were delicious cooked in a pan.

Grapes will be ready in September for the vendemmia or grape harvesting. Everything is done with machines these days.

Italian beaches in August are really really busy as everyone is on holiday now.

Nothing can be more relaxing than listening to the waves of the sea. The best time for walks is early in the morning and when the sun sets. It just feels magic! I am enjoying my beautiful Italian summer.

    Dear Alida,
Such wonderful colors! You hit it on the head…Summer time in Italy is the best time when the beaches are full of people and the abundance of fruits and veggies are there for everyone to enjoy! Even though I am not in Italy, Long Island beaches and veggies are among the most beautiful and tasty as well. Can’t wait to make the “Cucuzza Long.” We stuff ours with chop meat and spices. Tummy! Thanks for sharing Alida..Enjoy the rest of your summer holiday!

Oh I would love to visit Long Island! It must be really beautiful where you are. What a great idea to stuff the Cucuzza with meat and spices. Ciao!

Mother nature is definitely at her best in summer. She shows off in all the colourful fruit and vegetables and glorious sunshine and enticing us to swim in her waters. Bliss! I’m delighted you are all having a great summer holiday in Italy – I’ll be returning to Sicily next week, can’t wait!!!
