- 1 melon
- 150 g of Parma ham
- 1 small bowl and a plate for presentation
I am in Italy enjoying the sunshine and with temperatures approaching 36C nothing can be more refreshing than eating plenty of fruit.
Over the last weekend I went to a wedding and of course, like most Italian weddings we ate loads. One of the appetizers was melon roses and Parma ham which was delicious and looked so pretty. They turned the melon into little roses and made lots of them.
I loved the idea and did it at home. Very nice as an appetizer for a hot summer lunch or for a dinner al fresco!
Cut the melon in 4 halves, scrape off the seeds and peel it.
With the help of a sharp knife slice the melon about 2 mm thick
The thinner you slice it the better
Roll the melon slices tightly inwards
Make about 25 roses or more if you like
Now lay the ham slices over a small bowl over a plate covering it all up
Arrange the roses around the ham making a pretty dish
Enjoy al fresco!
