A look into my kitchen

What’s your ideal kitchen? Are you a traditionalist or do you prefer a moreΒ  modern style?

When I moved to Britain, I ended up in the middle of the countryside and all I could see outside my window was emerald looking grass, a pond, sheep and horses.. beautiful though! The house was an old wooden converted barn and my first kitchen, in tune with the surroundings, was country-style with an Aga (a traditional British cooker), plenty of cupboards and lots of room everywhere…you could almost run in the kitchen!

After that I moved in with my future husband and we renovated an old house ripping out an old kitchen and replacing it with a funky looking Italian white one which we fitted ourselves.

The kitchen itself was beautiful and very elegant but it was quite small and I did not have enough kitchen storage which is so important; I had to put some of my plates and pans in the sitting room and run backwards and forwards when I needed them.

So when we came to move house, my current one, the kitchen was a built in one, so it was already there. It is not quite as funky looking as the previous one but what is so great about it there is so much space to put everything. I have a proper quartzite/marble worktop which we recently installed which is so good for rolling dough. As you know I do so much baking and cooking and for me the kitchen is sacrosanct!

And this is my kitchen!

Look at how our kitchens have changed. You can read my post about the mid 19th century kitchen from Northern Italy.Β  This kitchen in the photo is bringing back memories as my grandma used to have a sink just like that. She actually had no proper kitchen, there was a long sink and a couple of cupboards in a small room and in the other she used to have an old fashioned cooker and her cupboards to place all her crockery. The table.. that’s where she would make her bread and everything else, no fancy granite worktops for her!

When I shopped around for my kitchen I was looking for one almost identical to yours! However I had to make do with the same style but in country pine but I got used to it eventually. Hope you enjoy making all your fabulous recipes in your new one, it’s absolutely lovely. Love the picture of the old kitchen too!
