I have always found Sicily a magic place to be.
It is an island surrounded by crystal clear waters, lots of sunshine all year round and with a mild climate in the winter and very hot beach weather in the summer.
There have been so many different civilizations in Sicily like the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, French, Germans, Spanish, Italians and they have all left an indelible impression.
The Valley of the Temples is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites with ten Doric temples, three sanctuaries and a few necropolis.
I went to Agrigento some time ago but my friend Silvia recently visited this beautiful location and sent me these amazing photos.
The Temple of Concord (Tempio della Concordia) which you see in the photo here was built in 430 BC and it is the temple of the ancient Greek city of Akragas.
The Temple of Juno (Tempio di Giunone) founded in 460 BC is situated on the highest point of the hill overlooking the Valley.
On the temple there are remains of the altar preceded by a staircase that led to the floor where they celebrated the sacrifices.
Love this photograph!
Silvia also stopped at Punta Bianca, the White Cliff which is a beach in Agrigento that retains the vivid colors and light typical of southern Sicily.
This coastline is characteristically white. The sea is wedged between the white rocks and this creates a play of colors and reflections..beautiful!
And finally.. look at this beautiful calming sunset! I must visit Sicily soon again!
