Do you love wine?
Today I am taking you to a magical place in my region that looks a little bit like Tuscany.
The area of “Il Collio” in North Eastern Italy, situated near the Slovenian border produces prestigious and superb wines indeed and the scenery is just magnificent.
I was there to visit some relatives with my family, precisely my grandmother’s cousin who owns several vineyards.
It took us a while to find their farm. As soon as you enter the area of “Il Collio” you are suddenly surrounded by vineyards..everywhere! The wine here is particularly good because the vineyards are set on south-facing terraces.
The sweetness of the grapes is just so overwhelming…
The wines produced here are of several types including Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and several very good white wines like Friulano and Pinot Grigio.
Loris from “El Roncar” took us around to visit the farm: he is very proud of his vines and he should be.
We visited the vineyard too. There was lots of chatting going on about all the work that goes into it. One of the most well known white grapes of this area is “Ribolla Gialla” which is considered quite prestigious.
Ribolla Gialla’s wine can be still of fizzy. I particularly love the fizzy one which is an upmarket version of Prosecco. This is a wine with a certain depth of flavour which lingers long in the mouth and it is fruity, crisp and light at the same time.
The cat at the farm kept following us.
We tasted several wines including a fizzy Ribolla Gialla which is just my favourite wine ever at the moment!
Loris produces several types of wine and I particularly like his ability to mix up the grapes.
We chilled out on the terrace with several glasses of wine.. my goodness it was so good. I loved watching the sunset there. What a beautiful place to be!
.
What a beautiful vineyard! I used to drink wine daily and Pinot Grigio and Merlot are my favourites.
Have a lovely weekend, Alida!
